There’s a sense of cruelty in raising children in that you have been given a delicate and innocent living thing to mould into a fully functioning human being. It is a task so important, hard and possibly world-changing, yet fatherhood doesn’t come with an instruction manual to tell you where the little bits and pieces go and how to put them together. The worst of it is that you’ll never really know if you’ve done it right until it’s finally there in front of you… a strong, brave, wise, beautiful and loved person ready to change the world. But by that time, you’ll be too old and tired to bask in the glory of a job well done— or worse, to fix the mess you’ve made of things.
